Sailing Split
Experiencing the Roman era at its best while sailing along the Adriatic Sea.
The city of Split, the largest city of the Dalmatian region, is without a doubt, a destination to travel to this year. Located on a small peninsula, on the eastern part of the Adriatic Sea, Split is rapidly becoming quite popular among all Croatian cities. It has a population of about 200,000 people, who are said to be the most social and welcoming Croatians. Are you ready to discover one of Croatia’s oldest cities?
Renting a catamaran in Split is an adventure suitable for everyone. This city is the perfect mix between medieval times and modern culture. While sailing Split, you will discover that the city itself will take you back to the Roman era, as it was founded within the Diocletian’s Palace, built 1,700 years ago. Home to an incredible cultural richness, the city of Split will captivate you with its old streets and tons of lovely buildings. Do not miss the bell tower of St. Dominus Church, the Cathedral (located at the city main square), and the Temple of Jupiter. The Archaeological Museum, built in 1820, is another must-see. When getting lost in the city streets, make sure you pay a visit to its famous and oldest neighbourhood: Varos. It is full of lovely stone-built houses and apartments.
The city centre, named a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO back in 1979, bursts with hipster coffee shops and super cool restaurants with bohemian vibes. It is definitely the best city to spoil yourself and taste some delicious Dalmatian cuisine. Well-known for having two of the most bustling street markets in Croatia, Pazar and Peskerija, the city of Split will definitely be an experience to remember.
While sailing Split, make sure you visit Bacvice beach. It is only ten minutes’ walk away from the city centre. Although discovering all the city has to offer might take a while, do spare some time to just lie on this beautiful beach and go for a swim. Other beaches you should not miss are Kasjuni, Trstenik, and Znanj. Although Split beaches are not the most beautiful, they are definitely worth a visit, especially for a refreshing swim after a long day walking around the city centre.
Getting to Split is quite easy as it has the second largest Airport in Croatia, as well as a super accessible port and a well-connected railway service.
When it comes to its weather, Split has a subtle subtropical and Mediterranean climate. Summers are usually dry, whereas winters are quite wet. Nevertheless sailing Split is a vacation you can have and enjoy all year round.
What to bring for your private Catamaran in Split
Please bear in mind that packing for a catamaran vacation is a totally different deal than planning what to bring to a regular holiday. The good thing is, our catamarans have enough space to accommodate everything you need to make your sailing in Split an experience you will never forget.
First on your packing list should be everything you usually use to protect yourself from the sun. From sunscreen (preferably waterproof and +50) to sunglasses and hats, make sure you grab what you need to have a safe sun exposure.
Secondly, and because Split is a city made for walking, a good pair of walking shoes and comfortable clothes are a must.
As tempting as it might sound, packing only beach clothes might result in having to go inland only to buy expensive things you could have carried with you in the first place. Things unnecessarily expensive and that you probably won’t use anymore after your vacation is over. So make sure you grab some warm clothes for chilly nights.
Another useful tip we want to share with you is the benefits of getting some quick-dry fabric clothes and towels, they will definitely make your life at sea easier.
If you or any of the people of your group are into fishing or any other kind of water sport, make sure to advise our crew regarding your favourite water hobby as some of our catamarans are equipped with fishing and snorkelling gear.
And for those workaholics that won’t stop emailing even when sailing around paradise on Earth, our catamarans have power plugs and WIFI available, so bring all your tech equipment. Do not forget to pack charges for your cameras, mobile phones and anything you use to create some beautiful memories.
Now that you know the basics, get ready for sailing Split and having one of the most memorable experiences of your life!
